The University Interscholastic League announced Friday it is modifying contingency plans and extending a previously announced timeline for completing activities for the 2019-20 season.

The changes were made in accordance with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s executive order mandating schools remain temporarily closed until May 4 due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The UIL previously announced the soonest competition could resume was May 4 with a “reasonable acclimation period for rehearsals and practices” prior to that.

Activities include competition, in-person practices and workouts. Remote learning measures remain in place.

As May 4 approaches, the UIL said it will offer specifics on district and postseason date adjustments.

UIL activities have been in suspension since March 13.

Boys basketball, soccer, softball, baseball, track and field, golf and tennis remain in season.

The boys basketball state tournament was halted during the first day of the three-day event on March 12 in the Alamodome. It has not been canceled. The area teams qualified for the state tournament including Cole, Wagner and Brandeis.
