Laredo BP agents seize over $690K worth of pot
U.S. Border Patrol agents seized more than $690,000 worth of marijuana at the checkpoint on Interstate 35, authorities said on Monday.
The incident unfolded on Thursday afternoon, when a silver utility truck arrived at the I-35 checkpoint. A K-9 unit then allegedly alerted to possible contraband within the vehicle during an immigration inspection of the driver.
Agents referred the driver to secondary inspection. There, an X-ray scan of the vehicle revealed anomalies. Agents then discovered 35 bundles of marijuana hidden in different compartments, according to Border Patrol.
The marijuana weighed 862.66 pounds and had an estimated street value of $690,128. Special agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration took over the case.
