Local skating center hopes to bring back its popular BYOB adult skating night the week of May 18
Car-Vel Skate Center Leon Valley hopes to bring back its popular BYOB adult-only "throwback" event during the second phase of Greg Abbott's "Open Texas" plan.
On Tuesday, the roller rink, located at 6807 Bandera Road, announced its tentative reopening date on its , writing that the event is scheduled to return the week of May 18, which is when retail malls, movie theatres and dine-in restaurants can expand their capacity at 50 percent. Phase two will only occur if the state does not experience a wave of new infections, Abbott said in his announcement last week.
The center has hosted its "Thursday Throwback Adult Skate Nights!" since 2018. During the event, adults can bring their own alcohol and skate to old school music from the 70s and 80s. Last November, the event's growing popularity caused the business to run out of skates for the first time in 20 years.
If and when the center reopens, it said in the post that guests will be required to wear a face mask while skating. Car-Vel Skate Center added that it will be following the social distancing guidelines provided by local officials.
The $10 price to skate will remain for the event. Cost includes admission and skates.
